What you see depicted here is a detail of the city of Lima, Peru.
Evelyn Merino-Reyna is a photographer that uses the unique point of view of aerial photographs to catch Lima’s contrasts. Here you can see limit point between the city – which has grown exponentially over the last years, and the ocean. The dichotomy between nature and human activity is key here, creating a beautiful image.
But the contrast between nature and human activity is not the only outstanding feature of the photograph: you see the difference between colors and monochrome, crowded and empty. The perfect symmetric composition is suggesting that there is a lot more outside the frame that we don’t see, even though the aerial picture seems to include a lot of details already.
Lima is a city made of contrasts, with an energy that makes it vibrant, frenetic and explosive.
